Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts for Spectrum of Operational Research should be submitted online at www.sor-journal.org. The submitting author, usually the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer-review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author list and that they have all read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript. To submit your manuscript, register and log in to the submission page.

Accepted File Formats

Authors must use the Microsoft Word or LaTeX template to prepare their manuscripts. Using the template substantially shortens the time to complete copy-editing and publication of accepted manuscripts. Accepted file formats include:

  • PDF: Manuscripts submitted as PDF are accepted only for the first review round.
  • Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Word must be converted into a single file before submission. Use the Spectrum of Operational Research template and insert graphics (figures, schemes) in the main text after the paragraph of their first citation.
  • LaTeX: Prepare manuscripts using the Spectrum of Operational Research template file and class file. Insert figures in vectorial format (EPS preferred) with at least 300 dpi resolution.
  • Supplementary files: May be any format, but common, non-proprietary formats are recommended.

Required Files

All necessary files must be uploaded during submission:

  • Manuscript:
    • Include keywords
    • All figures with captions
    • All tables with titles, descriptions, and footnotes
    • Ensure all figure and table citations in text match the files provided
    • Indicate clearly if color should be used for any figures in print
  • Supplemental files: Where applicable

Reproducing Published Material from Other Publishers

It is essential that authors obtain permission to reproduce any published material (figures, schemes, tables, or text) which does not fall into the public domain or for which they do not hold copyright. Permission should be requested from the copyright holder, usually the publisher.

Permission is required for:

  • Authors' own works published by other publishers without retained copyright
  • Substantial extracts from anyone's works or series of works
  • Use of tables, graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks if unaltered or slightly modified
  • Photographs for which the author does not hold copyright

Permission is NOT required for:

  • Reconstruction of your own table with previously published data (must cite the source: "Data from..." or "Adapted from...")
  • Reasonably short quotes considered fair use
  • Graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks completely redrawn or significantly changed beyond recognition

Obtaining Permission

To avoid delays in publication, authors should start obtaining permissions as early as possible. If in doubt, apply for permission. Spectrum of Operational Research cannot publish material from other publications without permission.

The copyright holder may provide instructions for acknowledgment. If not, follow this style at the end of the caption for tables, figures, or schemes: "Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title]; published by [publisher], [year]."
